Home Theater Term of the Week - Bitstream
A Bitstream refers to binary bits of information (1's and 0's) transferred from one device to another.

However, in Home Theater applications, Bitstream refers to a digitally-encoded Dolby Digital or DTS-related compressed audio signal from a source component (such as a DVD, Blu-ray, or HD-DVD player, HD-Cable, or HD-Satellite Box) to a Preamp/Processor (either standalone or built into a Home Theater Receiver) for decoding and distribution to the amplifier stage for final sound reproduction, in analog form, by the loudspeakers. The Bitstream can be sent via Digital Optical, Digital Coaxial, or HDMIinterface.

Panasonic Partners with Best Buy For 3D Plasma Television Launch
Home Theater 3D product announcements continue to roll in as Panasonic becomes the latest to release its 3D TV product line into the U.S. market. Touting faster image response times, Panasonic is confident that its emphasis on Plasma TV technology will gain acceptance with consumers. However, before you rush out to be the first on your block to own a 3D TV (whether plasma or LCD), it is important to note that necessary 3D content using the new standards, although forthcoming, is not available yet. As 3D-enabled TVs and Blu-ray Disc players reach store shelves, 3D content will follow, but it will be trickle at first.

For more details on Panasonic's announcement, check out the report from Geeks are Sexyand a follow-up report from The HD Room. Also, for additional background information on what you need to know about 3D, check out my 3D Home Theater Basics

Money Saving Tip: Buying Refurbished Products - What You Need To Know
Spring is almost here, and it is a great time to buy home theater and consumer electronics products. This is the time of year when manufacturers begin to flood store shelves with new models.

However, while this is great for the consumer who is looking for the latest and greatest, the introduction of new products creates a dilemma for retailers - How do you get rid of the remaining stock of old models, previous customer product returns, and newly-repaired service items taking up valuable space in their warehouses and store shelves? This is even more of a concern now that the economy has taken a decisive downturn; more of "last year's"products are still on the shelves.

This is where the annual Spring clearance sales come in. One category of clearance item that pops up this time of year is the "Refurbished"product.

Buying refurbished items can be a great deal for bargain hunters, but there are some pitfalls. Before you go bargain hunting this Spring, be sure to check out my article: Buying Refurbished Products - What You Need To Know.
