Question of the Week - What Type of Television Do I Need To Use With a Blu-ray Disc Player or Recorder?
Although DVD is the most successful home entertainment product in history, ever since it was introduced in 1997, it lacks true high definition playback and recording capability. Two competing camps came up with a solution: Blu-ray and HD-DVD. However, only the Blu-ray format now remains. To find out the answers to questions about Blu-ray check out my "Question of the Week Series"on Blu-ray Basics. James Cameron's "Avatar" Coming to 3D Blu-ray - If You Buy a Panasonic 3D Plasma TV
One of the problems with 3D-TV is the limited amount of actual 3D content that is available. On the plus side, more 3D Blu-ray content seems to be appearing, but on the negative side, all to often the few 3D Blu-ray releases available so far are tied to the purchase a specific brand 3D-TV. The latest example is the forthcoming 3D Blu-ray Disc release of Avatarin December.

In order to get your hands on the 3D Blu-ray edition of Avatar, you will have to purchase a Panasonic 3D Plasma TV. So those of you that already own a 3D-TV or plan to purchase a 3D-TV brand other than Panasonic, you will be out of luck until sometime in 2011, when Panasonic's Avatarexclusive ends. For more details, check out the report from TWICE (This Week In Consumer Electronics)

XpanD Announces Availability of Universal 3D Glasses
One of the real sore points for consumers that may be turning them off from embracing 3D-TV viewing is that those expensive 3D glasses branded for one manufacturer may not work another's 3D-TV. In other words, if you have a Samsung 3D-TV, your Samsung 3D glasses will not work with Panasonic's 3D-TVs. So, if you and your neighbors, friends, or relatives have different brand 3D-TVs, you will, in most cases, not be able to share each other's 3D glasses.

However, XpanD, a third party company that makes 3D glasses for both commercial and consumer applications, has announced the introduction of Universal 3D Glasses that can work on most currently available 3D TVs that use the Active Shutter system. For more details, check out XpanD's Official Announcementand the XpanD Universal 3D Glasses product page. Also, be sure to check out my 3D Home Theater Basics FAQs.
